Venues of the International Art Exhibition

The Giardini

Beside the Central Pavilion, that was built in 1895 and was enlarged and renovated several times since, 29 national pavilions were erected by participating countries in the park area since 1907 (the last one was built in 1995). These pavilions represent a fine anthology of 20th-century architecture, comprising the buildings of such masters as Aalto, Hoffmann, Rietveld, Scarpa and Stirling. >>

The Arsenale

On an area of 50,000 sq.m. approximately, half of which indoors, are located some historic buildings erected since the 15th century, such as the Corderie, Artiglierie, Sale d'Armi, Tese, Gaggiandre, and Tese dell'Isolotto. After a renovation project that began in 1999, the Biennale has made these spaces the regular venues for its international art and architecture exhibitions. >>
